UC Library Search Launch

UC Library Search will replace Melvyl and UCI’s Library Search on July 27, 2021.

How will I learn how to use UC Library Search?

UC Library Search is user-friendly, and largely will be similar to our current Library Search at UCI. Contact your librarian about training or other resources that will be available to you after July 27, 2021.

What will happen to my library account? Do I need to do anything? Do I need to turn books back in?

No. You do not need to take any action, unless you have saved lists, saved searches, or saved direct links to Melvyl or Library Search records.

I have personal saved lists saved in Melvyl. What should I do to keep them?

Saved lists will not be moved to UC Library Search.  Before July 27, log in to Melvyl by clicking “Sign In.” Enter your username and password. Click on your account name, and select “My Personal Lists” from the drop-down menu. From there you can access your saved lists. You can email your lists to yourself, or you can click on the “Cite” button and export the lists.

What do I do with my saved searches in Melvyl?

Saved searches will not be moved to UC Library Search from Melvyl. You should log into Melvyl before July 27 and click on the “Saved Searches” link in the gray menu bar. Record your saved search terms elsewhere if you wish to reproduce them in UC Library Search. Note that any saved searches from UCI’s current version of Library Search will migrate over to UC Library Search.

What do I do about links or bookmarks to specific items (e.g. books or articles) from Melvyl or UCI’s Library Search?

Links from Melvyl or UCI’s Library Search will not redirect to UC Library Search. If you have links to records from either catalog, either in your browser bookmarks, your Canvas pages, or elsewhere, you will need to update these links after UC Library Search launches on July 27.
